Although we do appreciate the extreme few who understood the concept of fashion week we regret to inform you that the
event has been canceled. Our principals and organizers are from the New York area and quite familiar (through experience)
with a "true" fashion week. Similar MD/DC events are not organized for the purpose of helping local designers to achieve a national
or global presence. Fashion Week is neither about vanity or just entertainment. Many designers presented us with questions
such as, "Why do I have to pay? I usually get paid to do fashion shows." Other questions included;
"How is it possible to have a five-day fashion show?"
"Why are so many events scheduled during fashion week?"
"Why do I need a website?"
"Why can't I choose my own time for my show?"
"What is fashion week?"
"What is a buyer?"
"Why would you invite buyers from Wal-mart, Macy's, and Hecht's to a fashion show?"
"What is MAGIC?"
"What industry specific publications are you talking about?"
This lack of understanding of fashion week and/or the fashion industry itself coupled with the fact that our primary
sponsors pulled out because many local designers failed to obtain websites for their lines has prompted the decision to cancel.
We, the organizers, recognize the success fashion week has realized in other markets and refuse to move forward with
a mediocre event that lacks the professional nature of our sister events. Once again, fashion week was not intended to assume
the name of a true fashion week and be conducted like so many local fashion shows. We appreciate the support of those of you
who did understand and we extend the highest thanks to the models that volunteered their time. Thank you.
